The problem

A knockdown texture overlay applied years earlier was delaminating in sheets across a 900 square foot pool deck, with hollow-sounding areas underfoot and a raised lip at the expansion joint by the spa. The resurfacing contractor needed bare, sound, textured concrete — and would not warranty over the existing overlay.

Scope of work

Mechanical removal of the delaminating overlay across 900 sq ft of deck
Grinding a raised offset at the spa-side expansion joint down to a walkable transition
Profiling the deck to the resurfacing system's specified texture, left non-slick
Hand work at the coping edge, skimmer, and step nosings
Water and slurry avoided entirely — dry, dust-controlled grinding with HEPA extraction so nothing entered the pool
Full cleanup of fines from deck, coping, and adjacent hardscape
